1.6 and 1.9 8 valve clutches are the same, get one to match whichever gearbox you have (different release bearing between BE1 and BE3)

Possibily an even easier way is to look on the gearbox case near the diff housing by where the l/h driveshaft fits in to the diff.

It should have it marked on the casting either Be1 or Be3 XU 30'.

AFAIk if it only has XU 30' its a Be1 (the one I have downstairs has).

thanks for all the help again lol, one other quick question im not even sure whicg gear box i have in my car at the moment i just assumed that its a 1.9 box because the engine is a 1.9 but the car started life as a 1.6 before i bought it, so now i might have wasted 50 sheets :( should ti say 1.6 or 1.9 onit some where?

The gearbox doesn't have any external marks saying if it is a 1.6 or 1.9, the only way to find out for definate is to remove the final drive housing & see what numbers are stamped into the crown wheel.

The 1.9 GTi is stamped 59x16 which works out at 3.6875.

The 1.6 is stamped 65x 16 which makes it 4.063.

Yes, you need to get the clutch to suit the Be1 gearbox which is up to around 1989.
