Ethos 0 Posted July 3, 2008 Hi guys, Filling my the mi16 up for the first time, haynes says; 10w/40 to 20w/50 which i'm guessing is for the different engines but I can't find anything mi16 specific, will 10w/40 semi synthetic from halfords do the trick? Anthony 1,003 Posted July 3, 2008 10W40 Semi is fine for a road and occasional track going Mi. Not sure that I'd choose Halfords oil given the choice though - it's usually cheaper elsewhere, for what's (probably) better oil. GSF do Fuche and Total oils for a reasonable price - £12.50 for 5 litres I think last time I bought some.
Ethos 0 Posted July 3, 2008 £15 roughly for 5 litres delivered from GSF, I paid about the same at halfords so not much difference in price. Surely with the 6k/year oil changes the engines won't be that fussy?
Ethos 0 Posted July 3, 2008 I hate filling up with new oil, it's so clear it's solid to find the mark on the dipstick!! I've put about 5 litres in though so must be close (should take 5.3 litres). Any tips for this?
BuD 0 Posted July 3, 2008 hold the dipstick paraell to the ground at eye level and look at it thin side on and you should see where the oil has been as long as the dipstick is cleanish.
Ethos 0 Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks BuD. Ok, so it seems 10w/40 is fine for an mi16. What would be recommend as a best fit for the engine? Total BV 75w/80 is "the" oil for the gearbox. What is THE oil for the mi16 engine?
