Whats The Difference?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Whats the difference between the phase 1, 1.5 and phase 2 wiring looms (engine part). The reason i am asking is that my car is a phase 1.5 and i bought a loom from a forum member, that had come from a ltd edition phase 1.5 sorrento green. On inspecting the looms everything looked the same, so my mate went about fitting it. The first thing we noted that was different was the power connector for the loom was slightly different, so we took the old one off and fitted this. Then when we came to the connections under the steering colume everything fitted together ok, so after fitting the new loom we tries starting the car to find that when you turn it to the second click instead off the ignition lights coming on the car tries to initiate/start and will do this continuasley until you turn the key back to the first position, there is also no spark.

When looking at the connections under the colume we noticed that the wiring on one of the plugs was slightly different in the fact that the colours dont match up, and on the new loom there is 2 wires going into one part of the connector, whereas on my old loom there is only one.

Sorry about the length of the post but i tried to get in as much detail as possible!

John

Phase 1 & early phase 1.5's didn't have the brown multi plugs but once they were introduced the wiring for the coil varied from year to year.

This Brown multiplug wiring topic might help out.

The starter solenoid wire and switched live are often the wrong way around so if you have a thick blue wire and thick red wire connecting then that would be the source of a lot of the problems. The smaller of the two plugs also often has a few wires different but you should be able to pull them out and re-arrange them to match up.
