Dixon 1 Posted July 2, 2008 I need some wet weather tyres for the 306 race car (settled on Eagle F1’s I think) buuut which wheels do I get them for? I have 17’s and 15’s Ok the 17’s will have more contact patch (reason for using them for dry tyres) but is this an advantage in the wet where they’ll then have to displace more water? Would I be better off or just as equal using the cheaper 15” 195/50/15 Vs 215/40/17 ? The wheel weights of the 2 sets are similar. Any thoughts either way bung them in please as I need to make a decision before Friday as it looks like it could be wet on Saturday’s track day and I don’t want to waste a day sliding round with no tread! I was led to believe that wide tyres in the wet is a disadvantage, better off with narrower ones. I found out from experience using 17" wheels, acceleration is slightly blunted compared to using 15" wheels thats on a daily driver. No race experience. welshpug 1,657 Posted July 2, 2008 from speaking to Nick C all he does is raise the pressures to give less sidewall flex, gets heat into the tread better as they don't warm up as quickly in the rain. I don't recall if he uses any different tyres at all. He uses the same ones as far as I'm aware. ( T1R's ) I'm looking for seperate ones as my buffed 17's were absolutly terrible in the wet but great in the dry. From more reading about I think that the 15's will be the answer for proper wet days as they'll cut in to the water better having less surface area to aquaplane on. daza4 24 Posted July 2, 2008 I am sure the 17" would be a lot better in the wet. or even those new square wheels that you can get. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . At least that way it will give our guys in our team more of a chance of beating you !!! (turnpike racing Wil diclaudio ,Tony Hutchins and Darren Hay) No seriously the 15's would be my choice with goodyear F1's. or try using Jason Coopers idea of going rond the outside......... seemed to work Extremely well last race!!!!
