Anthony 1,003 Posted June 30, 2008 Basically i want to know what the bracket that clamps onto the cross tube and bolts onto the underside of the car does and do i really need to re-fit it? That brace is only there on 3dr 205 models - 5dr models and 309's (basically a stretched 205) don't have them. I'm not 100% sure of it's purpose, but I think logically it's there to retain the fuel tank should the mounting bolts fail in a serious accident or whatever - I can't see that the bracket is sufficient to retain the beam in the event that it's mounting brackets failed. It is not, as is often incorrectly stated, anything to do with the rear seat belts. You can get away without refitting the bracket fine, although clearly there's no harm in refitting it if you've still got it.
