djinuk 2 Posted June 29, 2008 I had a leaking be3 gearbox on my car, i replaced the two driveshaft oil seals which stopped most of the leak, however whenever im under the car i can see that its still leaking but just slowly. I am guessing its the diff casing, my 1st question is what do i use to seal it up, also will my driveshaft oil seals be ok to reuse, is it a big job, and is there anything i should be looking for when doing it. Only real reason i am doing it, is i must replace my clutch this weekend so it would be a ideal time as the gearbox will be out from the car.
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted June 30, 2008 With the gearbox off its much easier, just a case of removing all the bolts think there 16mm 11-13mm iirc. Then just prise it off carefully, you could if you wanted replace the diff bearings while your at it, not that expensive from pug. The seals should be fine to reuse if they are new, just make sure they are nice and clean on refitting. To seal it ive used instant gasket in the past, never had problems with leaks. djinuk 2 Posted June 30, 2008 changing the diff bearings, ? is that something worth doing, and is it a big job, any chance of part numbers. Thanks for the advice , im going to go buy some loctite instant gasket, (making sure its not degradable by oil) and will get the leak sorted.
