BossHogg 0 Posted June 27, 2008 Ok i have a pet clunk it's loud and comes from the front left of my car. I have changed the top mounts for both struts and still is clunks. It's not the brakes as i swapped the 1.6 calipers for 1.9 calipers and isn't dependent on brake useage. The only things i can think of now to change are the wishbone bushes or possibly the gearbox mount as i have changed all the rest of the engine mounts apart from the gearbox. Anybody else have any ideas?

GTI6BOY 29 Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) DROPLINKS? Edited June 27, 2008 by GTI6BOY
hengti 2 Posted June 27, 2008 droplink or bottom arm balljoint are the most likely candidates ime
steve@cornwall 100 Posted June 27, 2008 DROPLINKS? Would think so, too. Put a lever between the bottom of the wishbone, over the ARB next to the bottom joint of the droplink and lever down - the joint on the link should not separate at all.

BossHogg 0 Posted June 29, 2008 Well nipped everything up. Made sure i had got the springs in their holders properly, checked the drop links, and now the clunk has gone. It'll probably reappear at some point just to annoy me. But thanks everyone for your ideas.

BossHogg 0 Posted July 21, 2008 A quick bit of recap, the problem turned out to be the gearbox mount, all the nuts were loose hence the clunking. So i took the opportunity to whap on a Grp N mount and all has been sorted. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys
