Vacuum Pipe

Recommended Posts

Ethos

Hi guys,

What type of pipe would I need to replace this one that always just hangs over the engine to tidy things up!

It's the one in the box;

If I can get it anywhere near as neat as this I'll be chuffed;

No, it's not long enough :D

I think I'd like to route it the same as the second picture I posted. Looks very tidy!

That second pic I think is the car that I now own so if you need any other pictures let me know.

Oh really? Hope you don't mind me using that picture. I think I found it off pistonheads.

Would be interested to see more pics.....

Probably just going to get 2-3 meters of M8 fuel hose and use that for the pipe now (along with the return fuel line).

Re-routing that one hose makes so much difference to the look of an Mi16 install. I've used various different types of tube in the past, whatever I've had to hand TBH, its only vacuum after all. I've also kept the standard hose on some installs, routed under the inlet and cut in two with a metal tube linking the two parts out of sight.

Exactly, Steve mentioned it when we put the engine in and the more I looked it the more messy it looked. Especially as the pipe is so old looking!

What would be the proper size of the house to fit it tidy around the engine ? Anybody knows a good place to buy it ?

Guessing there's no real "proper" size as it will differ. I'm going to buy 1.5 meters to do it.... i'll let you know how I get on!

Yeah thats right, you need to use your imagination on this one as there are so many different ways to do it, I've converted 15+ cars and I've rarely done it the same way twice.

I got some replacment vacuum hose from a motor factors and then ran it along the bulkhead and down the passenger side of the engine with the coolant hoses, and up underneath the inlet manifiocl. Makes it look so much neater and its an easy job to do.

Gratuitous piccy :D

That looks really tidy.

I bought 3 meters of hose for £11 which should be enough to do the return fuel line and vacuum pipe, will update tomorrow if the weather is good.

Hmm, just had a quick look. It's possible that it's bigger than 8mm internally for the pipe, so the piping I got might not fit.........

Just get a brake servo hose form a 405, plenty long enough and correct girth.

I hear that comment from my wife each night !!!!

It's ok, the hose fit in the end with a bit of soapy water help!

I've put some clips to keep it up at the moment but it doesn't look all that good. Plenty of slack left so will reposition it though, still alot better than just hanging over the head.
