i got me leccy tester out and tested the bat when running was only reading 12

then i used the positive on the battery and then used the negative on my alternator and i was getting a reading of 13 and higher when i revved it

i cant work it out in all fairness

any more information needed just ask and ill try and help a little bit more

Is the warning light on? Does it come on before you start the engine?

Are you saying you're seeing 12v with both positive and negative probes on the battery but when you put the negative probe on the alternator you then see 13v? If so check the earth on the gearbox at the other end of the battery negative cable.

If I understood what you said correctly it has to be the earth, the only other thing it could possibly be is the battery negative clamp itself, if you still have the standard screw on thing cut it off and fit a proper clamp.
