Is This What I Need For My Respray?

Recommended Posts

c_r_thomson

Hello everyone,

I've got someone to do my respray for me on my graphite grey 1.9

I've been told, 3 litres of acryllic basecoat + 1 litre of thinner, 3 litres of laquer +1.5 litres of activator.

How much can i expect to pay for this little lot and where is best to buy the paints?

Thanks in advance, Craig

I've used this place before for paints, maybe a good place to start getting a quote for that lot so you can compare other companies?

If you have got someone to do it, why dont they tell you what product they recommend you buying???? Prices can vary from place to product. lowest will be around £15 per litre for stuff, dearest being upto £100 possibly.

The painter i'm using paints RAF Nimrods for a living so he just listed what i needed rather than recommend a specific brand.

No. He was a rapper, do you mean 2 pack?:lol:

The K in 2K comes from the German word (Komponant?) meaning part.

So 2K = 2 part = 2 pack.

Basically the 'paint' is mixed with a hardener or activator, which chemically changes it as it cures. The most popular 2K paint are acrylic (which becomes poly acrylic) and urethane (which becomes polyurethane)

As for the actual brand, there's not much to chose between them if you're only doing one car. Lechler and Max Meyer are decent 'budget' brands, with the top names like DuPont and Standox costing much more, but I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference :D

As said, just look around for a bodyshop supplier in your area.
