TVH 0 Posted June 26, 2008 I'm planning to build a low-budget 1.6 8v race engine using XU9J4 block and liners with balanced 1.6 bottom end and a ported 8v head. My question is, will the head fit straight to the block and is the standard 16v cambelt tensioner (the one near water pump) usable or does the tensioner/block need modifications? I don't have the block yet but I've been offered one, just want to make sure not to buy something that's useless for me The reason to use the block is that I strongly believe it's stronger (less vibrations) and therefore better for high-revving naturally aspirated engine and there are class rules that prevent me from going for the 16v head. petert 588 Posted June 26, 2008 It all fits together nicely. It's a shame you can't do 1.9L and use Mi16 crank/rods/pistons.
guffe 2 Posted June 26, 2008 How does the XU9J4 block differ from "normal" XU9 block except the liners?
James_R 3 Posted June 26, 2008 They have some extra webbing on the block and oil spray bars for the underside of the pistons.
TVH 0 Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) Thanks guys, fully convinced now! Actually, it would be possible to build 1.9 16v or even 2.3 16v engine for the 205 but that would mean racing in the fastest class where your opponents would be BMW 3.0 CSL, Porsche 924 GTR, Porsche 911 and other 'real' historical race cars...too tough company for a beginner like me Maybe someday! Just to mention, there was a double champion wide-body 205 GTi on the fastest class but a couple of years ago it crashed badly on the legendary Ahvenisto circuit and it never returned to track. After that nobody has driven a Peugeot on that class. Edited June 26, 2008 by TVH
guffe 2 Posted June 27, 2008 They have some extra webbing on the block and oil spray bars for the underside of the pistons. Umph.. forgot the oil sprays That was the one reason I got the J4 block for my project in the first plase
James_R 3 Posted June 27, 2008 I'm not entirely convinced oil spray on NASP engine's offers anything useful over not having them though.
