SweetBadger 94 Posted June 23, 2008 I've just fitted some Mintex M1155s, (std 1.6 brake setup) and while bedding them in - braking from 70ish to 30 quite hard, my brake fluid boiled! Nearly puked up from the fumes, bloody horrible, and the fluid spilt onto my freshly painted cam cover and stripped the paint, bugger... I've only just replaced the M/C so it had fresh bog standard DOT 4 in the system but this obviously isn't good enough so I'm thinking of trying ATE Super Blue. Anyone tried it before? Will it be upto the job? Cheapest I've seen it is here - http://shop.instant-shop.com/JRT-Automotiv...atno690649.html Also my break system has developed a creaking sound when pressing the pedal and I can feel the creaking through my foot as I press the pedal. Sounds like it's coming from the right hand caliper, anyone had this happen before? Could this be caused by having dodgy fluid in the system after it boiled? Thanks, Alex. RonnieG 0 Posted June 23, 2008 I'm still running a standard 1.6 Gti Brake Setup with Mintex 1155 pads & ATE Super Blue Racing fluid in my track only Mi16'd 205. Sometimes when I come off the pads & discs look as though they have been through a furnace but never any more problems with boiling/fade.... SweetBadger 94 Posted June 23, 2008 Thanks for the replies, the wallet won't stretch to the AP stuff and it's recommended that you change it every 600miles or so - my car gets road use so it's not practical I've ordered the ATE Super Blue fluid as it's got a boiling point of >280 C and doesn't require a fluid change as often. Should do the trick, just hope that creaking goes away after I replace the fluid and bleed the system... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
VisaGTi16v 1 Posted June 23, 2008 Im running some standard volvo brake fluid (dont laugh, it was free!) which is fine with my 1155's and 1.6 calipers. I went out and did the bedding in process and the pads stunk afterwards. I thought this was enough but then went to a sprint the next day and they smelt a bit after 2.75 laps of Lydden on my practise run. My friend who was double driving then did his run and they were smoking quite madly when he got back into the paddock! Since that day they have been perfect though and no more smells so just needed a bit more bedding in it seems, best pads ive had for cold and hot bite and more importantly give excellent firm pedal compared to my previous pads Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
SweetBadger 94 Posted July 6, 2008 Late update - I've replaced the brake fluid with the ATE stuff and so far so good. No brake fade and once the pads are warmed up they perform really well. Not as good as the M1144s from cold but still fine for road use IMO, although they're obviously not fully bedded in yet as I had to brake sharply yesterday and got plumes of smoke coming from the wheel arches! Going to silverstone on the 17th July so will be able to test em on track and get them bedded in fully there. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
