Spoox Silicone Oil/breather Hoses

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

On my Mi16 I really want to go to a full set of silicone hoses. BBM supply the coolant hoses, so I was going to get the oil/breather set from Spoox.

However, over the years I've noticed that Spoox constantly get slagged for one thing or another. I've never had any dealings with them, so I'm just wondering if anyone else on here has a set of their hoses and could vouch for the quality?

Someone (Miles I think) mentioned recently that they need to be a special silicone (fluro lined?) for the oil hoses as otherwise they react with the oil and you can get bits of silicone in to the oil which then damages the engine, so does anyone know if these hoses are OK in that respect?

Stew or Miles do the filler/breather hoses too!! If not all then at least the main ones! :D

As said I do the main oil breathers but not the AFM/ICV one's, it's been hard enough shifting them over the yr and only just got the tooling cost back, I do have 5 sets in stock at the moment in black

Well I am always happy to give my custom to Miles, so I will be in touch with him soon.

However, since I reallly would like to replace all the hoses, I would still like some feedback on the Spoox ones before I make a decision.

myself spoox have tried to have my pants down ever time i even looked at going there, a set of timing pins then wanted close to £ 50 , yes thats 2 pins, . to put a mi16 engine, with no guarantee and over 150k on it they wanted 2.5k .. so therefore all my custom has gone to either constella, or bbm

No offense to you my good fellow, but these are all things I've heard before, and not what I'm really wanting to hear in this topic ;) All I want to know is whether the silicone hoses are proper quality.

If I don't get a suitable answer, or the answer is that they are crap, then I'll go and speak to uncle Miles, or Stew.

They are OK, I;ve seen a set and not trying to be biased on this, Bit too shiney and not quite as good fit as mine as I guess the pattern was slightly different,

The only thing he doesn't say is that the BX and 405 AFM > T/B are different and needs different hoses.

Stew doesn't do any of these, it's only me. I was going to get the AFM ones done but the very low demand has put toll to this

I wonder if demand would have been better if you did the full set like they do. Also, I don't think you market your products enough - everyone knows you do the gear rods primarily, but I wonder how many people know what other stuff you offer. I'd certainly forgotten that you do hoses.

I'm frankly surprised that you've had trouble shifting them considering how many Mi16 engined pugs are still out there, and that the hoses are either not available from Pug or are stupidly expensive.

I'll drop you a message in a few days anyway Miles.

I have a set of the oil breather pipes from Spoox in red, I have had no problem with them apart from one of the hoses that goes on to the T piece was about 1cm too long so I shortened it.

I think if I had an auto bonnet it would have been fine but it is a tight fit on the standard bonnet as the oil filler cap and cold start valve thing stick up quite a bit!

The guy I spoke to on the phone was really helpful and the hoses arrived the next day and look really good in red.

I would say the price is fair although when you compare it to the coolent hose set from BBM you don't get as much hose per £ if you see what I mean as most of the oil pipes are short!

With regards to the fit of the pipes they are tight and I have had no leaks whatsoever!

Hope that helps,

Simon

I have seen a set, which i helped fit to a friends car. It was some time ago, but i remember there being an issue with the T piece also, and once questioned they werent helpful.

By T piece, are you referring to the bit where one of the breathers joins the main filler pipe down near the sump?

I thought this looked odd in the pictures. It looks like the bit on the side of the filler pipe is the same diameter as the breather hose, so how do they join? On Miles' ones the filler pipe has a proper metal fitting that the breather joins on to.
