What Is This Box And What Does It Do?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I've been stripping a wrecked 205 and I came across this box right under the grille by the windshield. I know the engine bay is pretty dirty but u should have an idea where the box is located from the pics. The wrecked car is a phase1.5 1.9 GTI. I havent seen this box or one like it on any other shells I've dealt with. Does anyone know what it does?

:D

That was quick. Only problem....The car has no sunroof. Guess the sunroof was removed and the box was never removed. Do you think it's worth keeping, as in it might come in handy for someone someday?

You could always try punting it on eBay, but I'm of the impression that it's not the sort of thing that is highly sought after. They don't go wrong so don't need replacing, and you either have a sun roof or not, most people get rid of their sun roof if it's a track car whereas it's not common to convert TO a sunroof. So basically I doubt there is much demand for them.

I'll probably just dump it along with the wrecked shell it's sitting in.

I have another box I found. I found it just above the fuse box, under the upper dashboard on the passenger side. Any clues what it might be or do?

Would it help if i give information about the wires running to it? If so, what information exactly? Have to hurry before wire thieves strip the car...

Edit: the box reads "Jaeger Made in France"

A grey plug was plugged into it. Could it have to do with central locking?

Yes...it controls the central locking, only on 91 and later models.

So, can you shed anymore info on it? What exactly does it do? Would installing it with Phase 1 wiring benefit me in anyway?
