5150maxie 0 Posted June 20, 2008 my mi sump is leaking a bit at the front whats the best sealant in this case to seal without removing the sump again?
simonb 0 Posted June 20, 2008 Wate of time - if its leaking you wont stop it unless you remove the sump and clean it all up at least. Bathroom silicone sealer works fine or any other RTV-based product. If it still leaks then your sump must be warped. I have done 3 or 4 1.9 sumps in my time and they have never leaked a drop. (unless I am just too jammy)...
S13Nick 0 Posted June 20, 2008 instant gasket i find works a treat! the stuff i use is in a yellow tube and can get it from most motor part stores
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted June 20, 2008 Excuse my French but the bottom line is.... It's a FCUKING s*itE design basically. Other engines I've looked at have a super deep sump and shorter block and I guess a pump pick up that is longer and so the oil isn't often splashing against the seal. Our sumps are shallow and if you got it to the max on oil it's always arsing around at the seal giving it grief. Ideally the engine is upside down and dry as a boner and you seal that badboy up and wait 52 weeks for the sealant to dry and then put it back in engine bay and it'd never leak in a million years. acox99 74 1 Cars Posted June 20, 2008 never had a problem with instant gasket in a tube, put it on nip up the bolts leave to dry and then tighten up properly, gives a good seal and job done!!
S13Nick 0 Posted June 20, 2008 used it on every engine ive ever built... never once had a leak!

KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted June 21, 2008 Maybe mine's all warped! Probably doesn't help having to reattach a 700kg aircon compressor back on it.
petert 588 Posted June 21, 2008 My favourite is ThreeBond 1211. It was originally designed for motorcycle gearboxes, where extreme vibration is an issue. Regular silicon is a bugger to remove later (for someone). ThreeBond comes off easily.
