yorkshirekowboy 19 1 Cars Posted June 19, 2008 hi all, ive always wanted to know the answer to this question. If you have had a head skimmed to the max "french have wear pads on the face to tell if been skimmed before" on the cylinder head face, and say in the future, the head gasket went again on the same head, and warped, cos its been skimmed to the max "wear Pad" on face of head, would that mean the cylinder head is crapped? silly maybe, was just thinking, as i have one thats been skimmed to the max by the looks of it, but its part of my rebuild and hasnt been used so not warped. ..... i hope anyhow.... thanks danny

Can get a thicker headgasket in some cases to allow for the skimming though.
matt-k 0 Posted June 19, 2008 Wear pads?? Ive never heard of those before, where are they located and what do they look like? Matt.
Mikey S 29 1 Cars Posted June 19, 2008 Wear pads?? Ive never heard of those before, where are they located and what do they look like? Matt. theres a indentation in the head face, around the size of a penny, usually in the corner of the head. when the head is skimmed this indentation disappears and it tells you that the head is skimmed to its maximum. if the head is warped and has been previously skimmed right down, it doesnt neccesarily make it scrap. you can remove the valves and grind the seats further into the head. its a time consuming process and costs a fair deal to do, hence why people look for a replacement head when theres are no good. mike
