Pretty sure you would be able to get the SAD from a Bosch or Lucas dealer/stockist, from memory about £50.

from peugeot - 034537 AIR HOUSING 102.84 GBP (+vat)

ECU temp sender is sold by GSF as a BMW part for about £14.

When started from cold does the idle revs increase to about 1300-1500rpm after 5 or 10 secs? Does the idle speed drop down to 1000rpm when it has warmed up?

If the answer to these is "yes" then your SAD is working and so there is no point buying a new one.

nope, will idle at around 400-600rpm untill its warm, cutting out coughing and spluttering unless I rev it. Once warm it idles at around 900-1000 smooth and happy as larry

Its also a slag to start.

Welsh pug thanks muchly, that BMW part... is that for my model ('88 ph 1.5)? I only ask as I know there are a few differing locations for this sender, mines basically part of the SAD (well in that imediate area) not by the other two senders by the dizzy (the temp gauge sender and the warning light) like on later models.

You dont happen to have a part number for the GSF BMW ECU temp sender do you?

Thanks for your help gents much appreacited :P

don't they get full of gunk and stop working? might be worth removing, and scrubbing with a tooth brush, bottle wash, some petrol, and injector cleaner... also checking all the hoses to and from it are free from mayo and other gunk.

Intresting ;)

Can you indeed 'service a SAD' ? does it all come apart etc...?

cheers

You can see if the SAD works by removing it and looking through it to see if there's an open air hole. Then apply 12 volts across its terminals. In five minutes the hole should be blocked. It's explained in the Haynes manual, which also mentions various resistances which are worth checking before buying a new SAD or temp sensor.

I don't think it comes apart, but they're pretty easy to clean out. Just soak it in WD40, white spirit, paraffin, carb cleaner, or anything like that, and try moving the metal disc inside back and forth with a bit of wire to make sure it isn't stuck.

Based on my symptons I think its safe to say the SAD is knackered. If it was easy to get to Id sod about cleaning it etc... If it came apart I definiatly would.

Think I'll get the girlfriend to shake her money maker up the docks and buy a new one with the proceeds! 'pimped out for the pug'..... she will understand.... or maybe not
