Replacing Standard Seatbelts

I've just spent the last couple of hours removing the interior trim and seatbelts form my Rallye, and fitting some new red (standard) belts.

 

Thing is, 3 of the belts have recoiled and I can no longer 'pull' them out! Is there a trick I'm missing here? Or could they be knackered?

They need to be in the right orientation as otherwise the weight inertia doobrey locks up and won't let you extend them. For a start are you sure they are fitted to the right side? If that is correct try slackening the bolt and altering the angle of them.
