Best Way To Remove Loom

Recommended Posts

Ethos

Hi guys,

Looking to remove the old 8v loom, had a look under the dash- was hoping it'd be a bit simpler to do!! (As you do). What's the best way of getting this removed?

Ecu plug cables going up

Thanks

The best way I found without chopping loom and bending ECU plate mount.

1. Remove both windscreen wipers.

2. Open bonnet, remove scuttle panel. There are two nuts which hold the dash in place N/S and O/S

3. Undo other nut under dash just above the ECU mount plate, visible in first phot.

4. Pull the dash, drivers side away from windscreen, the bolt which goes from dash to under scuttle panel retains the ECU mount plate, this should then hopefully drop down allowing you to remove the loom.

Is it for a 16v conversion?

If so, you won't require the ecu and taccy relay plug.

How i do it:

Remove all the lower plastics.

Lower the steering colum (4 11mm nuts).

Chop the ecu plug and taccy relay.

Lay on your back in the foot well and look up and there are 2 cable ties holding the loom in. Snip these, and simply pull the loom.

The only plugs / sockets you need for 16v's are the 2 brown plugs.

Yep. I'd like to take the loom out as complete as possible ideally.

I've removed the main lower plastic bit from the drivers side, anything else to take out?

I'll try lowering the steering column and see where I am then!!

I don't think im confident enough to go cutting wires

Its only a rough guide just to get the 8v loom without cutting any wires. To remove the whole dash you've got 4 retaining nuts, 2 on N/S 2 O/S, you'll need to remove some retaining screws by the glove compartment, looking in and up, also you'll need to remove the instrument cluster cover and dials, but theres no real need to remove the dash to do an Mi install.

Well, I got it out.... the dash is like semi off, well enough to get the loom out cleanly. GOD knows how I'm going to get it all back on smoothly, but going to keep it this way until I get the other loom in now.
