Rear Stub Axle

Recommended Posts

After refurbing my beam and just got to the point where i'm fitting the rear brakes, I noticed that while putting the pads into the caliper the disk was not aligned withe the caliper and carrier. Thinking back the pads on that side were worn lob sided! On close inspection, having removed everything including the hub, the stub axle is bent downwards! Can it be removed from the trailing arm or not? Does it mean a new arm complete. ( a pain as i've had new shafts pressed in!) Any advice, anyone done it, anyone got one spare near derby!!??

so you can locate the pin in its splines before you press it into place, its just a round hole on later ones.

I had something similar once, was caused by the pads coming out of the caliper and catching on the wheel which bent the caliper mount on the arm.

Make sure you fit an identical arm or a matching pair, I accidentally fitted an early 309 arm which had different toe and camber to the late 309 arm I had on the other side. This resulted in at least a year of iffy handling before I got to the bottom of it.

Are the stubs the same on disk or drums, is there a difference on the trailing arms themselves? Theres loads of drum brake 205 / 306 cars at the scrappers but no disk!!??

306 stub axles are actually longer.

Think you're right. Getting a 306 one from GSF tomorrow and it measures 135mm instead of 130mm but I think I'll get away with that! Should still sit behind the cap, I may have to extend the groove with a grinder to lock the nut in place. Will let you know how it goes.
