2052006 10 Posted June 19, 2008 Trying to get my front discs off and have rounded off the head (philips) of one of the two screws that attaches it to the hub. Cannot get the screw out now, what's the best way of removing it? Thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

jackherer 543 Posted June 19, 2008 Those screws are very soft metal and easy to remove when rounded. They are only there to hold the discs when you take the wheels off, the disc is held by the wheel bolts during use so replacement is optional IMO, but you should be able to get them from most motor factors etc. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Once the wheel is in place the screws are superfluous. Exactly what I was going to say. I wouldn't remove the stump unless you are going to refit new screws. Trying to refit the wheel with nothing holding the disc in place is a right pain, as the disc moves if you try and move the wheel to align the bolt holes. Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted June 19, 2008 For the little time and money it takes to put these countersunk screws back I personally always like to do it, by the time you have struggled a few times trying to put wheels back on with the brake disc moving about you would have spent less time refitting the screw in the first place. I had no screws on one of mine for ages, and used to get so annoyed fannying about lining the bolt holes up every time I had to put the wheels back on. Just because I was too lazy to get some new screws. Now I'd never go without considering they cost next to nothing.
