2052006 10 Posted June 19, 2008 Trying to get my front discs off and have rounded off the head (philips) of one of the two screws that attaches it to the hub. Cannot get the screw out now, what's the best way of removing it? Thanks
welshpug 1,657 Posted June 19, 2008 drill the head off, you should be able to wind the remains of it out with a pair of grips once the disc is off.
2052006 10 Posted June 19, 2008 Thanks, I had started doing this, but didn't want to go too far in case there was an easier way. Will give it a proper go. Obviously, I will then be one bolt down. Where's the best place to get a new one, Pug? Thanks
jackherer 543 Posted June 19, 2008 Those screws are very soft metal and easy to remove when rounded. They are only there to hold the discs when you take the wheels off, the disc is held by the wheel bolts during use so replacement is optional IMO, but you should be able to get them from most motor factors etc.
welshpug 1,657 Posted June 19, 2008 (edited) just an M6 CSK bolt circa 10mm long, I've got some SS ones on mine Edited June 19, 2008 by welshpug
McDude 33 Posted June 19, 2008 Or don't bother with them at all! As said, they only hold the discs on when the wheel is off. Drill the heads off and it leaves a little peg to sit the disc on. Once the wheel is in place the screws are superfluous.

Once the wheel is in place the screws are superfluous. Exactly what I was going to say. I wouldn't remove the stump unless you are going to refit new screws. Trying to refit the wheel with nothing holding the disc in place is a right pain, as the disc moves if you try and move the wheel to align the bolt holes. daza4 24 Posted June 19, 2008 Or like on my car I have wheel studs to hold the disc on!!! Dont worry with them Pete. Its not like you are going to be swapping wheels all the time, The wheel nuts will hold them in properly. I will have a look tonight for that AFM.
Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted June 19, 2008 For the little time and money it takes to put these countersunk screws back I personally always like to do it, by the time you have struggled a few times trying to put wheels back on with the brake disc moving about you would have spent less time refitting the screw in the first place. GLPoomobile 958 Posted June 19, 2008 I completely agree. I had no screws on one of mine for ages, and used to get so annoyed fannying about lining the bolt holes up every time I had to put the wheels back on. Just because I was too lazy to get some new screws. Now I'd never go without considering they cost next to nothing. My 205 will have studs soon anyway, so fitting the wheels will be a breeze
2052006 10 Posted June 20, 2008 Well I've salvaged one of the screws so that'll do - cheers chaps.
