casanova2007 0 Posted June 18, 2008 ive started my mi16 build and im just sourcing my last few parts. its a 1.9 alloy block mi with a reconditioned head, i havent had the engine running since i bought it and was told it blue smoked and i did try to get it to start in the car it came with but it wouldnt. thing is ive had the rocker cover off and its gleaming in there, ive also had a look at the inlet valves and stem seals and theres no sign of oil seepage also had a look at the exhaust valves and stem seals and there also ok,just the usual carbon deposits in the exhaust ports and in the exhaust manifold but no sign of oil, also i may add that ive tried the whole injection system on my friends fully working mi16 205 and it wouldnt fire either? any ideas? cheers daz
gti-si 0 Posted June 18, 2008 (edited) Burning oil could be the piston rings... Did you check for a spark and fuel whilst it was on yours? What exactly did you try on your mates? Edited June 18, 2008 by gti-si
casanova2007 0 Posted June 19, 2008 before i got it he changed the oil and new plugs and the oil is still at max level. we swapped over the whole injetion system on the other car, manifold, injectors, air flow meter, fuel rail and his then wouldnt start. the engine has got compression cos its a bugger to turn over by hand!!! Anthony 1,003 Posted June 20, 2008 also i may add that ive tried the whole injection system on my friends fully working mi16 205 and it wouldnt fire either? any ideas? Swap the parts over one at a time rather than all in one go, and you'll be able to identify which part(s) are causing the non-start.
casanova2007 0 Posted June 20, 2008 just a quicky will an mi16 engine running injection with dizzy adapter and 8v loom and ecu run with an mi16 air flow meter or does it have to be an 8v one?
jackherer 543 Posted June 20, 2008 You can't use an Mi16 AFM with an 8V loom (unless its a motronic 8v loom)
casanova2007 0 Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) its a bosch loom and ecu. also if a the tachometric relay isnt working will an engine run? cheers Edited June 20, 2008 by casanova2007
jackherer 543 Posted June 20, 2008 its a bosch loom and ecu. Bosch comes in two types on the 205, Jetronic and Motronic. Most UK 205s are Jetronic so it wont work. Unless the loom you have is from a late cat equipped 205 and based on Motronic but thats unlikely. Simple and probably correct answer: no it wont work. also if a the tachometric relay isnt working will an engine run? cheers No, the fuel pump wont do anything. casanova2007 0 Posted June 21, 2008 yer its early phase 1.5 jetronic cheers for that, fuel pump has always been on a manual switch, does the relay control anything else?
