205Rallee 59 Posted June 18, 2008 Has anyone used these pads on a 1.6gti calliper? Any ideas on the part number? Grooved and drilled, drilled, grooved or standard discs? What's best for sprinting?
swordfish210 20 Posted June 19, 2008 I'm using these (front and rear) and they are bloody amazing. They have excellent bite from cold and they dont overheat. For sprinting you kight want to try solid discs because they will heat up quicker
SPGTi 2 Posted June 19, 2008 I am using these in the rear calipers on 1.9. They seem to work very well with the hydraulic handbrake . The price new is about £120 a set though. Have you tried the Carbon Lorraine pads ? From Demon Tweeks a set for the front calipers (girling) was around £60 and the braking performance is really good, even from cold. They just tend to eat discs. I tend to use the cheapest discs I can find (currently ECP @ £15 +vat for the pair), and even with left foot braking don't get fade or judder. During night events spectators are treated to sparks as well . Steve
VisaGTi16v 1 Posted June 19, 2008 Solid discs for sprints as you dont need the cooling and it will also save you a shed load! I run Mintex 1155's in the front of mine with 1.6 calipers and they are great from cold but more importantly give a far better pedal feel than my old pads which were Pagids which didnt work at all from cold leading to quite a few near total carnage moments driving to events when I hadnt used them for a while and approached a roundabout. I forget which ones they were but they werent rs4's, they sound ok according to swordfish
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 19, 2008 I used the Pagid's are they are by far one of the best pads I used, knocks spot's off Mintex and the Ferodo range, they last well too which I found handy but you end up with more Disc dust than brake dust
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted June 20, 2008 I had some pagid fast road pads on my GTi with Bendix calipers before I fitted bigger front discs & tbh I found them to be leagues ahead of the 1144's on my STDT now. Shame I'm looking to swap them for girling front calipers soon to get rid of the creaky brake pedal & I don't have any Pagid pads to fit the girling calipers. Graham. 205Rallee 59 Posted June 20, 2008 Thanks everyone. I co-drive on rallies in a 1.9gti that has the Rs4's alround and the cheapest discs we can find and that stops unbelievably well from cold and never has brake fade. They do eat the discs but as you say they are cheap. From my experience of the rally car I can't imagine why you'd need bigger discs or callipers in anything with less than 160bhp. I've managed to find them for £98+VAt. My original drilled discs on my 205euro Rallye were from TAS, they are old but have virtually no wear on them. The pads I have been using are Ferodo DS2500, they never seem to wear out, but they judder like hell once they are warm, yet there is no vibration when cold! Will try them and let you know how I get on after my next event at Elvington.
