Clutch Advice . . . I Think Gsf Are Wrong

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just been on the phone with GSF after a clutch kit

I have a 1989 1.6 GTi fitted with a BE1 box

They list a kit up to 89 and a clutch 89 on, which one do i need?? He reckons the later on because my car was registered in September of that year (which i find hard to believe!!!) I would assume there are different ones lists for BE1 and BE3 boxes???

Please help desparately need to sort my clutch, 205 is only car at the mo

Just for peace of mind im changing the clutch because recently i had trouble getting gears especially when the car was hot so i adjusted the cable which worked great for the past 3 weeks apart from a slightly too high bite, but now when i press the clutch it seems fine until about halfway down then goes through a stiff patch then frees up as i reach the floor, but it selects gears ok. so i reckon the release bearing is on its way out and/or the clutch plate is worn (even tho iv had no slip). :)

What do you guys reckon as this forum is like my bible

BE1 'box will need the earlier kit. but first check that all 'box > block bolts are tight and that the l- bracket on the 'box (at the end of the cable) is not bending / splitting, both common probs with your symptoms

BE1 is upto '89 and BE3 is '89 on so you need the early one. The only difference is the release bearing. Date of registration is irrelevant.
