Slam Panel Colour?

Recommended Posts

Rob Thomson

Hello,

Anyone know the correct colour for a 205 slam panel? Mine's on a 1992 Miami GTi if that makes any difference...

Many thanks, Rob.

if you have one in the right colour you could take it to a Paint supplier or a bodyshop to get the right match.

I cleverly wanged the old slam panel one ages ago so have nothing to compare.

I'm tempted just to paint it black...

Sorry I can't help with the exact colour, but you wouldn't believe the amount of messing about I did to get the correct colour for the ones on my car and EdP's sorrento.

I started out with a beige primer from Lechler (funnily enough named GTi Primer, lol), and added a few different colours until it looked right. After spraying it out though it was far too matt, so I added some clear lacquer to increase the gloss level. That threw the colour out a bit, so I had to tint it yet again with more colour. I think I ended up doing 6 or 7 test sprays before I was happy :)

Just paint it back, looks much nicer :)

I'm replacing mine soon, so I could post you the old one for the cost of postage (pay back for that loom you let me have) if you wanted one to get a paint match from. The only thing I will say though, is I'm the slowest worker ever, so I can't make any promises as to how soon I could send it to you. I have the replacement half stripped of paint, it just needs another few hours of prep, then paint, then fit it to the car. But a few hours can take months with me :)

Also, I know GTI6BOY bought a new one recently and IIRC it was only about £12, but I can't remember if it came primered or painted the right colour. Maybe worth asking him.

Thanks, but don't worry. The one that needs painting is from Pug; came with black primer. I've already rubbed that down and re-primered, just need to make up my mind regarding the colour. I bought a can of 'Peugeot Antelope Beige' from Halfords ages ago as a bit of a guess. I'm kind of tempted to use that, but I think black looks better...

I suppose if I f*** it up another panel's only £12...

Well I just found the previous topic about this (I knew it had come up before) and a few people mentioned that some GTIs did come with black slam panels as standard, but in a satin finish.

I think the beige ones look f***ing grim :)
