Removing Engine From Van?

Recommended Posts

Hardgraf

Hello

Buying a 16v engine today for my 205. The guy has a hoist to get it in the van but I don't have anything to get it out onto the garage floor when I get home.

Any way round this, can it be lifted by 4 people, a ramp made etc?

Thanks

I would of thought with 4 people you would be ok, maybe rig up some chains and a couple of lengths of wood/scaffold to make it easier.

For comparaison 2 of us lifted a ford CVH engine out of the back of a van, and thats a cast iron block.

Just found an article hich states that the alloy block is 113kg dry & 132kg with alternator, flywheel and starter. Should be fine.

Thanks

Two of us managed to lift a 1.9 mi16 out of the back of an astra van, so 4 people should be able to manage the slightly heavier iron block.

Yeah, I've lifted the alloy blocked Mi16 loads of times with just two people. I'm hardly Geoff Capes, but that was easy enough. Two people shouldn't have any problems with the S16 IMHO.

I've lifted 1.9 Mi16s and 2.0 S16s between two people, they're no different really.

should be fine with 4 people though.

I forgot about the person making tea and the person telling everyone else what they're doing wrong :)

No It's not my engine but It's close enough.

2 of us fashioned a wooden ramp off the back of the van & slid it down. Easy

Would have dead lifted it myself if it was barbell shaped.

I would have bench pressed it (wearing goggles of course in case of oil drips).

Yes, you wouldn't want to come a cropper after dropping it on yourself following an oil drip to the eye.
