Diff Leakage

Recommended Posts

I've got gearbox oil leaking from where diff joins gearbox....cant see any cracks or anything and everything is working fine???.......just got leakage......anyone any ideas?? maybe i need a new box?????

I've heard its a dry seal too so there is no chance of it being just a seal......

Anyone have any ideas what i should do next??? :(

cheers

Usual culprit in this area is the driveshaft oil seals, are you sure it is not these?

There must be some sort of sealant in between the diff cover and gearbox surface :( i usually apply thin coat of holymar (blue gasket sealant) on the diff cover and never ever had any leaks from there ..

Apart from this and the driveshaft oil seals , it could be leaky speedometer housing O ring seal .

Rgs !

I had this for the first time last year when I'd swapped gearboxes on my car & transfered my diff over.

Everytime before that I've swapped the diff over & put the housing back on without any sealant & had no leaks.

Reused original housing from the box I was fitting my diff to & it just leaked around the mating faces so I ended up using sealant when I swapped gearboxes next because sealing it in the car was a pain.

bugger...... looks like im gonna have to take box out and refit with a bit of sealent :-(

i've just had another look and leakage is defo not from driveshaft seals......it is leaking from a couple of places...seems to be joining faces and a bolt on the side slightly higher too also looks like maybe bottom drain plug( maybe a new washer would sort that one ;-)

All bolts are tight enough though ......

Anyone have a good 1.6 be1 lift up box? lol..... :)

might as well swap box's maybe......god i hate taking out gearbox's especially refitting :-( not looking forward to this one

Hi guy's first time poster.

We have a track day 1989 peugeot 205 gti 1.6, which used to be raced in stock hatch, we are hopefully gonna use it for track day's, anyway it has developed a leak and thought it could have been a problem with the seal, not that easy, turns out the bloke we bought it off left a socket in when he changed the clutch just prior to us buying it and it has cracked the casing.

I wouldn't mind too much but we have only just got it to a stage where we can book a day and now we are looking at the £250 mark to sort it out.

Ho hum

Great club by the way keep up the good work. ;)
