Whats The Best Ride Height For A Cti?

Recommended Posts

smokey

Hiya guys

I was wondering if you could help me?

I know its down to personal preference but i was wondering whats the best ride height for a fast road CTI?

Mine is still on standard suspension and i would like to lower it a bit so to fill the big arch gap.

It will have 15" speedlines on it too.

Thanks

get yourself some gti -30mm springs and shockers and lower the back to match (~310mm centre to cetre shock moutnign bolts), it will look and feel much better.

When i took the springs off my CTI they were about twice the length of the replacement springs!!

Ideally you want some matching shortened shockers because if you have shockers that have a long telespoic distance (liek the CTI ones) you may find that the shortened springs aren't even in compression when the shock is at full extension so you'll need to zip tie them onto the top and bottom pans to stop them from falling out if the weight comes off the wheel totally.

-30mm shortened springs with long dampers will sit differently to -30mm springs with shorter dampers, you will get a different gap between teh wheel and the arch

i found this recently when i replaced my avo front shockers which were matched to its lowering springs back to standard bilstein shockers. The front now sits slightly higher than it did before puerly down to the distance the telescopic part of the shocker can travel.

hope that makes some kind of sense :P

Agree with M@tt. Get quality front springs, such as Eibach. A GTI rear antiroll bar makes a world of difference to the handling too

Well after much thought i went for skip brown roadspeed springs on the s16 gti. They look progressive as a few coils are close together, however when the car is on them these coils totally compress leaving only half the spring working. I thought this was gona give a really harsh ride to having only half as much working spring lenght as oe, and was actually thinking of selling them due to this. Also they dont fall out of standard shocks when weight is off them! Anyway i tried them on the road and they are far from harsh, firmer than oe but suitable for road conditions, 25mm drop so plenty of travel left without hitting bumpstops- i tried 40mm pi springs and they hit bump stops when motoring down a slip road which nearly buried me in the 205.

If you can ignore the dodgy looking coil bind the sbc springs are a perfect match for uk roads. i cant understand how some people find them harsh. I have driven so many boy racer cars that are sunk t nuts and handle like they have welded the suspension up.

The sbc springs feel like they have been made and tested for fast road. I dont think they will withstand corrosion in the longterm like eibach though. I would use skip browns again for their fast and helpful service.
