Batfink 201 Posted June 11, 2008 (edited) I have a straight cut gearbox basically sitting around and I'm thinking it should go into a standard 1.6 gti I can use as a fun runaround. Only thing is its got a standard final drive which means it will be quiet. I'm thinking I should track down a 1.9 straight cut FD to give a great petrolhead noise. Would it be a straight swap? Diff out - swap, diff in job? Edited June 11, 2008 by Batfink
James_R 3 Posted June 11, 2008 the output shaft would need swapping over too, and I didn't knwo 1.9 finals where straight cut, theones I've seen haven't been
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted June 11, 2008 If it is a straight cut box it will make enough of a racket as it is, no point going for a straight cut final drive unless you really want to piss your ears off. Sounds good for about the first 2 mins. After that it is just annoying. That is speaking from experience of driving cars with straight cut boxes about (minis). Batfink 201 Posted June 11, 2008 oh well it was a good idea for 30seconds!
James_R 3 Posted June 11, 2008 On that note I'm sure Quaife would make you one, but at £500-600 a pop is it worth it, oh and straight cut finals are weaker than semi helix. I'd have the gearclutster from that box rather nice
