Straight Cut Final Drive

Recommended Posts

Batfink

I have a straight cut gearbox basically sitting around and I'm thinking it should go into a standard 1.6 gti I can use as a fun runaround.

Only thing is its got a standard final drive which means it will be quiet.

I'm thinking I should track down a 1.9 straight cut FD to give a great petrolhead noise.

Would it be a straight swap? Diff out - swap, diff in job?

If it is a straight cut box it will make enough of a racket as it is, no point going for a straight cut final drive unless you really want to piss your ears off. Sounds good for about the first 2 mins. After that it is just annoying. That is speaking from experience of driving cars with straight cut boxes about (minis).

On that note I'm sure Quaife would make you one, but at £500-600 a pop is it worth it, oh and straight cut finals are weaker than semi helix.

I'd have the gearclutster from that box :) rather nice
