Anyone Ever Used A 205 Td Radiator As An Upgrade?

I'd of thought the temperature would be controlled by the thermostat though?

If the rads cooling the water really efficiently it will cool the thermostat which will slow down flow thus keeping the temperature where it always was?

Or am I just being daft. :(

That is my belief aswell, and the thermostat is controlled by the temperature on the engine side of the circuit so I would only expect to see a difference when you exceed the cooling capabilities of the original radiator with the thermostat fully open.

Exactly, say youve got a thermostat that opens at 83 degrees, by making the radiator bigger it wont reduce the running temp at all. To lower the overall temps id fit a lower temp thermostat so the water begins to circulate sooner.

A bigger rad will stop the car running at 95-100 degrees when you want the running temps no higher than 83 assuming youve got good airflow over the radiator and its not just been lowered.

The name of ANTI FREEZE is very misleading. It plays 3 roles within the cooling system.

1. Stop the coolant freezing up under cold conditions.

2. Keep the engine/coolant cooler in summer/hot conditions.

3. Prevent internal corrosion. This is the most important and overlooked aspect, ever had an mi16 head thats needed welding up, thats usually due to the fact that its never been treated to anti freeze.

Anti freeze is a necessity!

What size is the thermostat that your running 'cause the td has a monster of a thermostat (60mm approx) and would only get hot (hotter than normal) when knee deep in traffic when the fans weren't working - a git of a system that could run the right hand fan (as you look at it) at high and low speed before kicking in the second at either speed once running it was great the only down side having swapped three rads was the size of it and the cost £123 with vat.

Yep otherwise your block will probably rot through! its important on these engines as the anti freeze protects the aluminium head and block.
