Undoing Bleed Screws/front Hoses

Recommended Posts

2052006

I am in the process of refurbing my brakes. I am struggling to undo the rear drum bleed screws. Also have new front flexi hoses to go on - haven't tried fitting these yet, but what tools do I need - specific brake spanners, if so what size?? Would these be best for the bleed screws too - I tried a normal 8mm open ended spanner and it didn't like it much...

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Pete

the other end of the open ended spanner, i.e ring end usually does the trick, or a deep 6 sided 1.4 drive socket.

tweak it clockwise then loosen it.

Ideally a proper brake hose spanner is best for the hoses;

A 7mm bi-hex ring spanner or decent make of socket is best for the bleed nipple.

Give the bleed screws a damn good going over with a wire brush first, I'm not sure if it helps but I've always done it and not managed to snap one yet :wacko: I also use a six sided socket to avoid rounding off, then once they are out I give them a good brush down and a coat of copper slip on the threads

just upgraded my callipers at the weekend, and when bleeding them, a good dowsing in wd-40 or similar helps :)

both undid a treat with a deep 8mm socket - thanks for the advice - also lots of wd40!
