Cylinder Head Valves

Recommended Posts

matty_gti

Hi, Ive got a 8v cylinder head and the cambelt slipped when it was on the car (ive allready raplaced the head about a year ago now) causing just one valve to bend and not seal against its seat. Ive got this head and a spare in the garage which is past it and i know you say dont interchange valves from one to the other but could i just remove the valve from the spare 'past it' head and replace it with the bent one and obviously lap it in?. Id then use thinners to make sure it gives a good enough seal but just wondering if its worth while or not as the head was in good running order when fitted.

Yes.

If you lap it in you should be fine.

Nothing wrong with swapping the valves  just make sure that they aren't bent (for checking this precisely you'll need to spin the valves on a lathe ..) re-grind/lap the seats , adjust the valve clearances afterwards and you'll be fine

Rgs !

If it laps in ok (nice even matt finish all the way round the seat, can be double checked by smearing with engineers blue, or boot polish!) It will be ok.

Did exactly this on my 1.6 when the cambelt snapped.

Cheers guys! :) Just thought it would be a bit of a waste other wise as it looks sound. Ill sort out the valve and pass it on to my machine shop for skimming.

Thanks.
