Wiring 106 Coil Pack On Emerald

Recommended Posts

Daz_C

Could someone please confirm the wiring order for the plug that connects to the 106 coil pack.

Ign Driver 1,2 and Ign Live.

The plug I have has what I presume is a surpressor(sp)? just off the the back of the plug which I presume bolts to the body but I don't know in which order the other 3 wires connect up.

Can someone enlighten me please

Cheers Daz

There are no markings at all on the coil apart from what looks to be a part number, and the origional plug is at the scrap yard with the rest of the car i took the coil off lol

Its a new plug on a new loom for an emerald ecu for a mi, Iv also got a similar problem with the crank position sensor, it has 3 connections and the ecu only has a + and - and the sensor has no markings on it :)

The 3rd wire on the crank sensor is the sheild - Ideally you use sheilded wire all the way back to the ECU and not just the plug on the cable.

The sheild wire goes to the "sensor earth" pin on the ECU iirc.

Ah right well iv used the shielded cable so thts ok,

On the following pics which is pin 1???

obviously this is the crank position sensor, as far as im aware pin 1 and 2 + and - which can be wired in either way round as the ECU only looks for the change in current? but which is pin 3 so i know where to earth the shielded cable?

And the 106 coil, no markings at all to tell you whch is pin one so a little stumped here...

This is from an MP3.1 loom for the coilpack & none of the wires are sheilded.

Is that off an mi16 as it has 4 connectors not 3 as mine does,

I think the easiest thing for me to do is going to be to buy an mi16 loom and take it apart for a good look at it, and aslo get myself down a scrap yat and cut the connector off a 106....

No, none of the coil wires are sheilded, but the crank sensor is :D

Yes im aware of that the issue im having is which way round the connectors are numbered left to right or right to left, IE

On the coil pin 1 earths cylinders 1 and 4, and pin 2 earths cylinders 2 and 3, pin 3 and 4 can both have a switched 12v, i dont want to be wiring the 12v into the swithced earths and the switched earths into the 12v`s

its simply a case of, is pin 1 on the left, or the right

Its such a simple but annoying problem, made even more annoying that there is nothing stamped on the plug`s

How does one do a continuaty test? i tryed giving pin 1 a 12v and then checked if any of the other pins were showing 12v and they all were? am i doing it wrong??, also i tryed checking the resistance between each pins all the readings were all the same.

For Clarity quoting Sandy's post

Pin 1 Coil 1&4 to ECU

Pin2 Coil 2&3 to ECU

Pin3 12v supply (from ignition switch)

Pin4 duplicate of pin 3, used for suppressor.

pin one from the left to pin 4 on the right of your photo of the coil pack

12 V can be put to either pin 3 or 4, on mine its put to pin 4

Continuity test , on your multimeter there is a setting where when the probes are touched you either have an audible tone or the meter reading goes to zero

Its from an MP3.1 loom, MI16's don't have coilpacks.

Its the same plug that will fit the coil pack you show in your picture above with a four pin connector, thats the same coilpack I have on my car.

Order of the wires top the plug is as posted by Craig.

crank sensor usually is numbered like the plug Graham posted, certainly the one in my hand is.

pin one is on the right of your picture

Same here.

I expect you'll find all plugs are numbered in the same way, clip on the top facing you & from #1 on the left.

Graham.
