Jrod 7 Posted June 6, 2008 These just bolt straight on to the tu3s engine yes? Do I need to touch the driveshaft seal like on some of the other boxes?
Fox 3 Posted June 6, 2008 I'm not sure, but I have one in the garage if you would like me to take some photos? They look differnet from what I can remember. The starter is round the back on the 106.
RossD 44 Posted June 6, 2008 It is on the TU 205's too! The box should fit straight on without any problems.
Jrod 7 Posted June 6, 2008 A few people have told me it fits but just wanted to confirm 100% Given up trying to find an XS box and going for a rallye one but they are about 5x the price.
Fox 3 Posted June 6, 2008 The AX GT and XSi box's are fairly similar I believe
Jrod 7 Posted June 6, 2008 Yep also gave up trying to get hold of them aswell. I've been after one for a few months now.
RossD 44 Posted June 6, 2008 The later (After 1992) boxes are uprated internally and the casing is slightly stronger than the XS boxes so should last better. Saying that, compared to other boxes they still seem to be made of chocolate!
Jrod 7 Posted June 6, 2008 That's part of the reason I've just forked out £135 for one! I remember reading something about setting the oil seal a bit further forward but wasnt sure if it was relevant on this box.
christopher 5 1 Cars Posted June 6, 2008 (edited) That's part of the reason I've just forked out £135 for one! One of mine has a 106 box on and the seal looks the same. Be sure to change it. Have you considered changing just the Diff? The 106 box is even shorter then the XS...But you know that Edited June 6, 2008 by christopher
Jrod 7 Posted June 6, 2008 I may look into rebuild the current xs box I have at the moment, proble mis gettign it apart. Yep rallye box is even shorter, can't wait to fit it! That along with my new 309 TCAs, quick rack and r888's is gonna be awesome!
Fox 3 Posted June 7, 2008 £135 is a very good price for a Rallye box! I'd love to know if there are any more going!
RossD 44 Posted June 7, 2008 You'll need to set the passenger side oil seal about 2mm proud of the housing if you are using the 309 TCA's, otherwise you'll have a cat piss smelling puddle under the car
Jrod 7 Posted June 7, 2008 I'm gonna be using the short 309 driveshaft (as otherwise it can pull out of the box?) but the long one I was told will be fine as its bolted in place?
swordfish210 20 Posted June 7, 2008 I bet you wish you bought the rebuilt XS box that i had forsale now dont you. It had only done 20,000 miles since a complete rebuild and i was asking £50 for it. No one wanted it so i got £10 down the local recycling place for it

Yep, thats right, thats why only the passenger side seal needs to be slightly proud

andychalmers 0 Posted June 10, 2008 It was the fact the shifters had been drilled out that put me off, plus I didn't need a box then! To fit 106 rallye box into a 205 you need to use 205 XS type long drive shaft as normal. The short shaft needs a 106 rallye inner put onto a normal 205 shart & outer. You can get away with using a normal 205 XS type of shaft but the shaft will be 10mm further out of the box (making oil leak) and also puts too much strain on the diff & shaft as 10mm longer. Jrod 7 Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) Well as I'm using 309 TCAs could I get away without using the 309 shafts as these are about 10mm longer to stop the shaft being pulled out of the box? I've been told to not sit the oil seal all the way in as this will stop the oil leak. Edited June 10, 2008 by Jrod
Jrod 7 Posted June 28, 2008 Well as soon as I got this I finally got an XS one so this is going up for sale!
