chrisj21 2 Posted May 31, 2008 Has any one got a pic or can you describe how the front mudflaps fit on. ive lost the bag and instructions for them.Im sure there were more brackets. All i have is the mudflap and theres a metal tab that i assume fits with the bolt screwed into the shell. any help much appreciated. Chris

CaptainP 2 Posted June 1, 2008 There's a bolt that you remove from the inner wing (usually covered in sealant). Affix the top of the mudflap bracket (looks like a piece of meccano) into this hole. Then use the little clamps to grab the underneath part of the body shell - just up from the jacking point. I've noticed some of the mudflaps available on Ebay have the clamp holes on the wrong side so you have to drill your own.

Project205 0 Posted June 1, 2008 On the back of this, I have purchased a pair of front mudflaps but am reluctant not to try undoing the bold at the bottom of the wing in case it sheers off! Any horror stories on this guy? I know that the wings are a pain in the ass to remove without damage hence this would be a disaster! For now, the mudflaps remain redundant! 205gt-ty 0 Posted June 1, 2008 My bolts were coated in the under sealant (can't remember the proper name) once I scraped that away they both bolts came out easliy guess the sealant stuff protected them from rusting. Give it a go mine has kept a lot of the muck of lincolnshire roads off the door panels.
Project205 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Thanks for the confidence boost - my bolts are also covered in sealent still. So on the sill, do you need to drill through it to secure the base of the mudflap?
205gt-ty 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Just take out the one bolt in the wheel arch under the sealant and swap it for the new bolt, which goes through the metal plate then on the bottom onto the sill it should be like a U shape clamp that just tightens on to the sill. With mine after I put the GTI badges on I melted the back of the plastic prongs so the badges were sealed onto the mud flap to stop them coming off. Hope this helps if you need the instructions pm me as they are still on my desktop. Simon
