kilauea 7 Posted May 28, 2008 Just some rough guidance if anyone can help. I had my suspension replaced a few months ago and got -35mm springs (Auto-five) and AGX dampers. As it was dropping 35mm (or so I thought) I asked the garage to do the same to the rear. However, I didn't reckon on the grp N top mounts that were also going on. OR the fact that he dropped the back too far (more like 60mm!). So I'm just getting round to sorting it out. The front looks to me as it was before - which was probably a slightly sagged standard height. I want to use my local garage (not the one that dropped it) to set the rear height, but just wondering what guidance I can give him to get it right (they are not pug specialists or "tuners", but are reliable, close and cheap). Is there are measurement that can be done to the front to work out what the rear should be? Would "set it to the book standard" do? - given its not far off that. Or is there something else I can ask for to get a good matching ride height? I am taking this on a track this year so would like as good as I possibly can, but a rough guide will do. Cheers, Gaz

Where abouts in stockport are you you dont get many 205s round here. I would but I think its slightly beyond my capablities as a mechanic! (I do my own servicing, but last big job I attempted didn't go too well!). I'm in heaton moor. It doesn't get out too much, I have a red 306 rallye as a daily driver. Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted May 28, 2008 Try 310mm centres as a starting point, then see how it sits and go from there.

kilauea 7 Posted May 28, 2008 Cheers Tom - I will go with your suggestion to start. If they can't get it right I will have a go before I waste any more cash, so I might be giving you a shout Dave! Oddly not seen that 306 about - I suspect I would remember if I did
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 29, 2008 They will struggle to get the 310mm that Tom suggests if they are trying to adjust the ride height by the spline method but its easy if they have both ends of the torsion bar free from the centre tube & radius arm. Might be worth finding out which method they are going to try before they start having a go at it. Graham.
Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted May 30, 2008 I must say I've never even attempted the so-called "splines" method (bodge?) before, but 310 to 312 mm usually gives reasonable results with standard 205 19mm bars, with -35mm lowering springs at the front.
welshpug 1,657 Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) Mine is set to 312mm, matches 25mm springs well. (55 profile tyre seems to fill the arch better than the old 50's) Edited May 30, 2008 by welshpug

Hmmm - although I do have -35mm springs, the grp N top mounts seemed to have eaten most of that. So it actualy sits at the front almost like standard to me eyes. I've actualy just found out its leaking coolant somewhere - I changed the hoses for the BBM ones and fitted new rad, and then paid someone to supposedly check there were no leaks. So I guess he did as good a job of that as he did my suspension. Think I will give Skip Browns a bell and just get them to do that a few other jobs while its there (quickshift linkages). I guess you get what you pay for eh? Thanks for the responses anyway.
