projectpug 0 Posted May 28, 2008 I have just acquired a 205 1.9 box with quaife ATB differential. Is it easier to fit this as a whole? Or how difficult is it to remove the differential and put it straight into the gearbox I have in the car already? Thanks Phil
gti-si 0 Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) Either way your going to have to remove the driveshafts. To fit the quaife to your original box, you'll have to take the final drive casing off, then remove the diff. Then you need to unbolt the crown wheel (CWP) and remove the original diff from it, then do the same with the quaife. Then that needs fitting to your crownwheel, pop it back in the final drive housing and away you go I think. Ofcourse, if the two boxes are the same and have the same CWP you don't have to bother swapping them, just straight swap the whole diff and crown. If your box is in good nick, i'd swap the diff. Means you don't have to unlink the clutch cable and gearrods etc...and putting the box back on is always a pain in the arse Edited May 28, 2008 by gti-si
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted May 28, 2008 I'd swap the gearboxes complete rather than having to strip down two and grovel about under the car with gearbox oil dripping on your head, but thats just me!
VisaGTi16v 1 Posted May 28, 2008 If you do put the quaife into your current diff housing, do it back up with a couple of bolts, stick a driveshaft in and try and turn it. I had to grind off a small bit of internal ribbing when fitting mine which I had only heard of with plate diffs before. Would be a royal pain in the rear if you bolted everything back together to only then find the diff was locked.

Yes i had to grind away some of the inside of the diff casing in order to fit my KAAZ plate LSD.
welshpug 1,661 Posted May 28, 2008 I'd do what tom suggested, fit the box complete unless you want different ratio's to the 1.9 box.
