gti-si 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Basically im breaking a car I found at the scrappers...and it came with these 4 pot brakes on the front. But, they've been painted DIY style and although there are marks on them, I can't come close to reading them. Just wondering if any one recgonises them? Fancy getting some new pads and discs if possible Cheers
Baz 421 Posted May 27, 2008 Look a bit like 406 Brembo's i think...
gti-si 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Thought had occured to me...they a good set of brakes?
Jrod 7 Posted May 27, 2008 Pretty sure they are not 406 brembos. Bleed nipples look to be in the wrong place and the angle the pipe goes in is also different.

Baz 421 Posted May 28, 2008 Look a bit like 406 Brembo's i think... Are they cast iron?
Rob Thomson 6 Posted May 28, 2008 Austin Princess. Yep, I reckon those are off a Princess. Very popular conversion for Mk2 Escorts, and I remember reading somewhere they bolt straight onto 205s too...
Stu 18 Posted May 28, 2008 I agree, defo princess calipers, ive had a few sets. Heavy as fook! If you can buy them for sensible money do so, then ebay them for a good profit! They even look to have been spaced for vented disks, defo one for the 'bay methinks buddy!
gti-si 0 Posted May 28, 2008 I might do that, they didn't cost me a thing. They were on a scrapper I bought but i've made the money back and these were on. Im on the look out for some breaks you see, your right though, they are heavy as fook
Stu 18 Posted May 29, 2008 Personally mate, id ebay them, and the money you make get hold of a '6 setup, ive got them on mine and they are awesome!
gti-si 0 Posted May 29, 2008 You think theyll go for a hundred say?
DanteICE 72 Posted July 25, 2008 Lol I was going to bid for these on ebay, but fell asleep after a long days work, gutted I missed them really! I asked several questions about the brake dimensions, made a massive effort to make sure they were right for me then missed the auction all together! Nevermind, if you've still got em though give us a bell....
gti-si 0 Posted July 25, 2008 Ahhh that's a shame mate! I would of kept them myself but they were a bit heavy for my liking. Big set of brakes tho!
205wrc 16 Posted July 27, 2008 The ones you have there are deffinately the Austin Princess 4 pot calipers with the spacer kit fitted for the vented discs. What you need are a set of these. AP2361 calipers - also known as the "Forest AP". Commonly found on MK1 and MK2 Escorts. Awesome stopping power and only weighs 2kg each. The ones in the photo are bolted on to a 1.6 GTi hub with a 1.6 GTi disc. They even fit under a 14" wheel
gti-si 0 Posted July 27, 2008 That's an interesting find. Do they work with 1.9 hubs? I'd only really look to something with bigger discs TBH as this gives the best gain in stopping power obviously. There's only a limit to how much braking force you can apply with standard 1.6 discs Any discs you can use with these that are around 280mm?
205wrc 16 Posted July 27, 2008 Yep! They work with 1.9 hubs and discs as well. If you buy the calipers new, they come as a blank, i.e. there are no mounting holes, therefore you can drill the holes in any position that you want. They will only work on a disc 254mm - 267mm diameter, otherwise you'll need something like this one............... http://apracing.com/calipers/products.asp?...ct=10S4_354_167
gti-si 0 Posted July 27, 2008 (edited) http://www.hispecbrake.co.uk/calipers/b4%20Princess.htm These seem a good deal, should of kept my discs and bought a set of these instead, doh! I skimmed the discs as well before they were sent to the new buyer (groove formed on the back side, was only about 3thou in so no bother) so they were like new aswell! There only £160 for a new set Edited July 27, 2008 by gti-si
