Gavin Waddell 18 Posted May 27, 2008 i just changed the cambelt and in the book of lies it says to run engine until the fan kicks in, then let cool down and then retighten cambelt. I was watching the temp sender and well it got to the second from last which is 80degrees it think and it started to spew coolant out the overflow about a 1.5lt i reckon, the fan still hadnt kicked so iswitch on the second fan. I know it has got an 82degree thermostat in, was this just opening up and letting an air bubble out the cap was on the expansion tank. im a bit cofused. thanks gavin
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 27, 2008 Did you do anythin else beside changing the cambelt prior to trying to run it up to the cooling fan cutting in? It is possible there was an airlock but if it ran fine before you did the belt & the cooling system wasn't drained for any reason that shouldn't be the case imo. Graham. Gavin Waddell 18 Posted May 28, 2008 Its a rebuilt engine so it was completly rebuilt so there was probably an airlock inside the system, if it wasnt that why would it do it?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 29, 2008 If there wasn't an airlock then I don't know of any reason why it would do it unless the cooling system was getting pressurised by a head gasket that wasn't sealing at all on one or more cylinders. Graham.
richard 0 Posted May 29, 2008 the time when mine started pushing coolant out was the head gasket breaking down between the cyclinders. So was presurising the system to the point where it blew the top hose as well.
Gavin Waddell 18 Posted May 31, 2008 i took it out for a drive the other day so i reckon that it was an airlock and not a fail head gasket
