Bonnet Flew Open On Motorway!

Recommended Posts

Bakes100

Hi guys

This morning driving to work my bonnet flew open off the lock, luckily it was held by the feeble latch that holds it down.

Is this common problem or could it just be me not clicking it down all the way??

If its worn are they cheap to replace.

Doesnt really fill me with confidence as next time the latch might not hold it and could cause a lot more problems

Thnks

I had this happen once, I put it down to me not quite latching it properly cause it happened just after I got the car a couple of years ago and it's never happened since.

I had this also when the wind was really strong a couple of months back and I was driving into it. Just put it down to a combination of not fully engaging and the wind pressure.

This happens on mine all the time if I just drop the bonnet shut. What I do now is lower it onto the latch and then push it completly shut and I get no problems. However I am fitted some bonnet pins just to be safe

Bonnet pins!

Im not mad on how they look but its better than removing bits of windscreen from your teeth at 100mph

might be worth just cleaning up and regreaseing the bonnet catch.

noticed mine wasn't always going down correctly and just cleaned the worst of the gunge out seems OK now.

but having read your experiences might give it a wee overhaul  .

Glad you came to no harm anyway.

As above, just make sure that the latch is engaging properly when you shut the bonnet, it'll probably just need a tidy up.

as above make sure that the latch engages. and as a quick test, put ur finger under lip of bonnet and pull up. it should stay down, if it pops up, you know there is a definate problem.

Also, have a quick look at the landing panel, to make sure the 2nd catch hasnt distorted the metal in any way.
