Subby 0 Posted May 26, 2008 Hello! Just bought myself a 205 mi16. Love it to bits! Needs a respray but drives amazingly and pulls so much better than my white 8v 1.9 gti. But after the drive home, it wouldnt start. Battery was flat. After changing it with another battery, it started, but i put a multi metre on the battery on idle and it was at 11.7 volts and didnt change at all when i revved it. (in fact it dropped .03 of a volt) Also the ignition/battery light doesnt come on at all. Not when i turn they key or when the engine starts. Could it just be the bulb is gone, and causing the alternator to not be switched on? Any help would be awesome!! cheers guys.
dani959 0 Posted May 26, 2008 Chances are or alternator is not connectedn (check the plug and wires) or not charging. Your bulb on the dash is probably gone too... Cheers and good luck! Daniel

Subby 0 Posted May 26, 2008 ok, checked as much as i can.. There are two spade terminals on the alternator, and the brown wire is plugged into the vertical one. The battery light does not illuminate at all, and it does not charge when running. I plugged it into the horizontal one and the battery light illuminated with no keys or anything in at all....but still didnt charge when running. Should there be two plugs on the alternator or one? I think this is pointing to a nackered alternator? Another question, does a 1.9 8v alternator fit on? Thanks for your help!!
Subby 0 Posted May 26, 2008 also, how does the alternator pulley come off? I cant see a tensioner, so do you just unbolt the alternator?
Subby 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Ok, ive taken the alternator off my 8v and just in the middle of taking the alternator off the mi16. Im guessing i have to take the inlet mani off?
