Square Drive Steering Rack

Hi

 

Has anyone got the measurements of the square drive section on the 205 steering rack? I’ve had a look at my spares but there all spline type. I need the dimensions for a little project im looking at

Heya there, right did some measureing for you,

 

the shaft sticking out the rack is 55mm long,

 

There is a rounded section, then the square section then a few more mm of rounded section at the top (pic to show)

The 1st rounded section goes 12.5mm up the shaft

 

For the square section it's two flat sides oposite each other which are 15mm apart, the 3rd side is rounded and the 4th is rounded with a small indent for the tightening bolt.

Not really, 2 of the flats stop it turning as they locate into the column and the other flat is where the bolt goes.

oh ok, just trying to understand the difference and how it works, mine is splined see

IMO the square is the better design.

 

With the spline I always had to undo the lower column to slide it onto the rack. With the square it just pushes on from behind and the bolt holds it there.

 

Not that you should have to change racks often enough to worry but ya know, I seem to!

Yea I prefer the square drive rack to! easy to change from spines to square aswell, just need to change the lower part of the colum aswell to get the right fitting! but exactly the same for both into the top part of the colum!
