A Little Info On Upgrading Xs Brakes To Vented

Over this weekend i was planning on upgrading to vented disc`s to try and reduce the painfull amount of brake fade i get, so i bought 2 recon`d 1.6 callipers and a pair of 1.6 disc`s and pads,

 

Calipers fit fine, they are acctualy identical to the 1.4 callipers but with a wider pad carrier (if your callipers are fine and you want to upgrade just fit the 1.6 pad carriers!!)

 

The 1.6 discs DONT FIT! the offset of the 1.6 hubs is greater than the 1.4 hubs so the disc hits the hub! You will need to use 1.9 discs!!! i learnt this the hard way and had to swap the discs (which are bloody heavy in a rucksack on a bike!!)

 

The moral of the story is... if you want cheap vented discs on your xs, buy some 1.6gti pad carriers, fit them to your 1.4 calipers and stick in some 1.9gti discs

 

So there we have it, same power, no/less brake fade

The complete 1900 setup also fits, disks and calipers.

Only thing with 1.9 calipers the 13'' steels dont fit over them at all and even the 1.6 alloys can catch alittle too...
