Solid Rear Beam Mounts - Version 2?

Recommended Posts

Is it worth the extra money for the version 2 solid beam mount kit?

Or is the original fine?

my personal view is no - they are not worth it as I have had no trouble fitting the original style kit to a number of cars..but others swear by them..

I thought the Version 2 one was so damm easy to fit i dont see why you wouldnt spend the extra money on it. Plus the aluminum piece looks like a better quality component

I'd also always go for the newer type.

Go for the later version, the early one is realy a simple bodge as it doesn;t like up 100%, if the OE mount's could have been made with a bolt running straight thru them no doubt it would have been done like that, the off set is there for a reason

I've used type 1 but not type 2. Type 1 works fine, you just need a bit of leverage to get them fitted. I did wonder if this had any negative effect, such as effecting the rear wheel alignment, but apparently not.

So in summary, I'd say that type 1 are fit for purpose, but type 2 are a more fit for purpose :)

Fitting version 1 is easier with two people, one to drop the bolt through while the other pushes the arm to line the holes up, version 2 is a single handed one man job which avoids adding any extra stress into the rear support which have been known to crack along the seam where this mount sits & the vertical part of the arm.

Graham.
