Engine Rebuild Help And Magnex Exhasut Help

Recommended Posts

daza4

Right then am building my new engine and following the book of lies known as the Haynes manual, (the good one with the cutout picture of the 205 on the front) In it tells me to place the crank bearings in a particular order with groves and plain.

Have tried this the way they tell me, but the plain ones in the top just dont fit correctly in the top of the engine (remembered it is actually upside down when on my engine stand !!), they are off line with the oil holes and then the same with the groved in the actual bearing caps. Am I doing something wrong ?? I have 5 groved and 5 plain, the same amount as I removed when dismantleing the engine, stupid thing was I didnt note down that they were plain and groved when removing all the bits!!!

Next item is I bought a Magnex system downpipe back a XPS22 ( I seem to remember) and it was great once I had fitted a new down pipe. That was a little while ago, now I am doing my winter rebuild I managed to pickup a manifold. Now my question is are there two types of Magnex systems out there? one when you buy the manifold and the silencers together and then a seperate system for downpipe back?? i am approx 5-7 inches of pipe adrift by the look of things.

Any one got any ideas???

PS I have done a search on this but not come up with anything.

Hope you guys can help.

the crank bearing caps (if i understand what your saying) should be fitted so grooves are on both sides

only the shells that locate in the block should have the oilway hole in. the bearing cap shell should be smooth. as with the con-rod shells

that's how my engine was taken apart and put back together. only within the last couple of weeks

Peugeot kept changing the number of plain vs grooved bearings for no apparent reason. When you buy a replacement set these days you usually just get 5 of each, so you can ignore what it says in the manual and just the five grooved ones in the block and the smooth ones in the caps.

Regarding the exhaust, yes the systems are different depending on if it is downpipe back or the full system inc 4 branch.

I did actually understand that the groves/slots cut into the cap as shown in your great picture need to be on the same side as the block so the faces that are plain and the faces that have a grove in meet when built up.

Its the bearings that I am having trouble with.

The plain only seem to fit in the caps and the ones with the groves in only seem to fit the block.

As said already in this thread

That was what I was going to do as thats the way they want to fit!!!

Why, just go and buy a length of stainless pipe the appropriate size, job done!

Unfortunately it has a bend in it off the down pipe.

I will put a bit of mild steel in it for the time being and get a bit of stainless soreted out another time.

Right I have sorted the exhaust for now and am concentrating on the engine build.

Do I fit the plain bearings on the caps and the groved bearings in the block or is there a particular way they go??

Help please.
