Coonper 0 Posted May 20, 2008 Ive sanded it down to the best of my ability, but its pretty hard due to the intricate shaped of it, especially round the plug holes! My question is... Will brushed on hammerite smooth stick directly to the bare metal? I went for brush on paint, cus it goes on thicker than sprayed.
notamondayfan 44 Posted May 20, 2008 surely several layers of sprayed paint would give a better result?
Coonper 0 Posted May 20, 2008 surely several layers of sprayed paint would give a better result? Possibly, but it wont be as durable or as hard wearing as brush painting it on. Dont think spraying it would stick to the metal very well either...
Edp 67 3 Cars Posted May 20, 2008 Get it powder coated. Much more durable and shouldn't cost too much.
Coonper 0 Posted May 21, 2008 Well last night i just brush painted it with hammerite and it worked a treat! Given it 3 real thick coats and its taken really well. All for the cost of a tin of paint!
jas-E 1 Posted May 21, 2008 sand down the protruding '16V' and the lines on each side back to the bare metal and then lacquer the whole cover......
Coonper 0 Posted May 21, 2008 sand down the protruding '16V' and the lines on each side back to the bare metal and then lacquer the whole cover...... Exactly what i was going to do! One issue though... How will the laquer stick to the bare metal where i have polished it?

Your best to paint the whole cover then sand down the writing afterwards i think. I'll get some pics up when i get home.
