Spray Cans?

I've just repaired some rust on my 88 1.6 Gti. The colour is M1TA Silver. Any idea where I can get cans in this colour as I'm trying to avoid a £400 bill at the body shop!

Pop into your local Halfords and get it mixed into a dupli-colour can, but avoid their off the shelf goop!!

Where abouts is the rust jsut becuse i find all aerosols even supposed the right colour can come out a different shade of the same colour.

Should get away with doing the sills if your good but the area of the doorlock may be noticable. Get the cans mixed up in halford as mentioned be your best chance of getting a colour match.

Can is 6 quid, water thin and sprays like crap, specially mixed is 11 quid, covers twice as much, and has an acceptable finish from the can. You don't want the off the shelf can's orangepeel when you have to lacquer without being able to flat it off first

Wish it was! I think that's called spectrographic paint matching? I know this can be done, but don't know any about it, unfortunately. In halfords case, they mix the paint from a manufacturer's spec. You are going to be in the lap of the gods as far as an actual match is concerned, especially where a metallic is involved - the actual shade obtained can be varied by direction of spray, distance sprayed from (I believe) as well as the actual shade of the paint itself, you can get several shades from the same paint!!! This is why I live with the blemishes on my silver CTi - bad paint would look worse! I would certainly be thinking of spraying the whole panel, maybe blending into the panel line above the handle to give colour continuity to the top line, maybe even the whole side to this point. you could then "cheat" with a tasteful pinstripe to hide the difference! More difficult with the gti, as you will still need to blend on the rear quarter panel, between the two badges is a good point.

Oh well, might as well let the scratches and fading build up and then have a complete respray lol.

I found Halfords cherry red paint to be a good match on my car.

May have to go with the proffessional option. Replace the door myself then have the sills sprayed. Might have to spray a lot more of the car though to get a decent match.
