Let me know what you think I should do about this rust in the boot..

Will this pass an MOT?

Not too sure what to do, don't want to spend anymore money on it if I have to scrap it when the MOT is due (about 2 months). Apart from this the car is generally in reasonable to good condition having done 150K miles.

I doubt it would fail an MOT on that, but it doesnt look that difficult to repair either! Certainly not worth scrapping a good condition car over!

Its a common place for them to rust, id say just take it to an engineering place to weld up rather than a garage as they will do a beter job i have found, shouldnt cost to much either.

Most places will charge less than £50 to weld that up, I wouldn't worry about it, just get it welded and job done.

As said shouldt fail an MOT on that its not in anywhere structural to the car and also very minimal. But get it sorted as soon as you can to avoid it spreading any further.

First job if you want to do it properly is to grind back that paint and see how bad it is, then get someone to cut back all the jagged and thin metal and apply some rust proofing, then get it welded up which shouldn't cost much given where it is, then clean it up a bit and coat with some rust proofer and primer then paint back up again, as its in the boot it doesn't have to be a pretty job

Certainly not enough to warrant scrapping the car though.

sorry to jump in here but i have some similar rusty patches in the boot, can the boot area be welded with the back end built or would the tank & rear beam have to come off first?

Again sorry to butt in

Roddie

Thanks for all your replies, I will try a few body shops/garages to see how much they reckon.

flipperthebushka.. I don't think they will need to remove the beam and tank, as they should be far enough away from the area, will need to remove the bumper and valance though I'm sure.
